September ’18 FairyLoot Unboxing!

Hello, hello- how are you today? Did you have a nice weekend? 🙂

I have an exciting post for you today- an unboxing! I decided to treat myself to the September FairyLoot box- I hadn’t actually bought a box since June, so I actually didn’t feel too guilty with this little gift to myself, haha! This unboxing is a tad overdue; my FairyLoot box arrived at the end of September, but with monthly wrap-ups and my Anticipated Releases posts, I didn’t get a chance to do this until now 🙂

For those who don’t know, For those who don’t know, FairyLoot is a UK-based, monthly YA fantasy subscription service, in which you get a book of the month, along with exclusive goodies pertaining to a set theme. The theme for September’s box was Starcrossed Swoons, featuring items inspired by Twilight, Strange The Dreamer, A Court of Thorns and Roses, Shadowhunters, Shadow and Bone and The Star-Touched Queen. I actually decided to buy this box because I had a pretty good idea what the book of the month was going to be, but I was also intrigued to see what sort of related items FairyLoot were going to surprise us with this time 🙂

So, without further ado, here is what was in September’s FairyLoot Box! ❤

**

The first thing I received was this cute body butter bar by Little Heart Gifts!

P1050607 edit

It has artwork of Mal and Alina from Shadow and Bone on the front, which is really pretty. The body butter itself is a cocoa and shea butter with a stargazer lily scent. It is also vegan friendly, and I love the little heart design too! ❤ I’ve never used a body butter bar but it smells gorgeous, so I’m excited to give it a go~

I also received a Bella & Edward candle from Nerd Poured Candles, which is actually a side-venture of the ever-popular Geeky Clean 🙂

Bella & Edward are seen as the ultimate YA star-crossed lovers back in the day, so it was really nice to see an item related to them. The candle itself also looks really nice- I love the glitter on top! The candle has the scents of crisp apple, pine and cedarwood, which is really fitting for the series. I can definitely smell the apple! I will admit that I’m not the biggest fan of the scent, but that is just my own preference and I’m sure one of my friends would love to have this in their collection 🙂  Alongside the candle I also received some Angelic fire matches designed by FictionTea Designs. The packaging is inspired by the Shadowhunters series and the matches themselves actually have purple heads- how cool is that?! I haven’t have a chance to light them yet, but they look awesome 🙂

Next up in the September box was some exclusive Prythian shoelaceswith designs by FictionTea Designs:

The shoelaces are inspired by A Court of Thorns of and Roses, and has little circles of the courts of Prythian on them. FairyLoot have never included shoelaces before, but this is a really cool idea! It’ll be so cool to customise a pair of my trainers with these laces ❤

I also received this super cool notebook, designed by Read at Midnight:

It features a quote from The Star-Touched Queen and the colours of the design are just gorgeous! The pages are blank on the inside, so there are so many things I could use this notebook for, I can’t wait!

Another exclusive item in last month’s box is and exclusive Dreamer apron designed by Literary Life Company!

I’ll admit the apron quality is kinda basic, but oh my gosh the design is stunning ❤ I looove the colours, and the gold details are so elegant. The apron features a quote from Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor, and it is so pretty~ With these boxes I’m slowly building up a collection of bookish homeware/textiles, and I’m not complaining 🙂

FairyLoot did include some extra bonus content as well, which is really nice:

I received a sneak peek of Cassandra Clare’s Queen of Air and Darkness, a postcard of Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor, and a promo bookmark of Tamora Pierce’s Tempest of Slaughter. I have to say I love the bookmark, the feather design looks awesome and I’m SO looking forward to having it peek out from one of my reads 🙂

Alongside the bonus content I did receive some stunning postcards from the wonderful Taratjah:

For September’s box we were lucky to receive not just one piece of art, but a 6 postcard set! The cards have exclusive artwork of Julian & Emma from The Dark Artifices, Rhysand and Feyre and Cassian and Nesta from ACOTAR, Amar and Maya from The Star-Touched Queen, and Lazlo and Sarai from Strange the Dreamer. All the artwork is gorgeous and, although I haven’t actually read any of these books yet, I think my fave couple here has to be Rhysand and Feyre~ We also received an exclusive Shadowhunters Love Rune enamel pin, another design from FictionTea Designs. It looks super nice, I’ll have to find somewhere to put it up! 🙂

****

After all that amazing look, it’s now time for September’s Book of the Month. As I said at the beginning of this unboxing I did have a sneaky suspicion of what the book was for the theme, and thankfully I was correct! So, the FairyLoot book for September 2018 was….

P1050619 edit

Mirage by Somaiya Daud! ❤ I’ve had my eye on this debut novel since the beginning of the year, so I’m excited to finally have my hands on it! This edition is also an exclusive cover, as the US edition is purple and the UK edition is more of a teal colour. I think I prefer the purple version overall, but this grey is super snazzy- plus this copy has purple sprayed edges, so it’s a win-win 🙂 I also did the thing where I don’t read the blurb properly, so I definitely thought this was a Moroccan-inspired fantasy at first. But Mirage is actually a Moroccan-inspired sci-fi! It is rare to get a combination like this, so I am really intrigued to see how this all pans out. I love the concept of the main character being a royal body double though- so I’m hoping this is as good as I’m expecting ❤

Here is the Goodreads synopsis of Mirage:

In a star system dominated by the brutal Vathek empire, eighteen-year-old Amani is a dreamer. She dreams of what life was like before the occupation; she dreams of writing poetry like the old-world poems she adores; she dreams of receiving a sign from Dihya that one day, she, too, will have adventure, and travel beyond her isolated moon.

But when adventure comes for Amani, it is not what she expects: she is kidnapped by the regime and taken in secret to the royal palace, where she discovers that she is nearly identical to the cruel half-Vathek Princess Maram. The princess is so hated by her conquered people that she requires a body double, someone to appear in public as Maram, ready to die in her place.

As Amani is forced into her new role, she can’t help but enjoy the palace’s beauty—and her time with the princess’ fiancé, Idris. But the glitter of the royal court belies a world of violence and fear. If Amani ever wishes to see her family again, she must play the princess to perfection…because one wrong move could lead to her death.

And that concludes September’s FairyLoot box, Starcrossed Swoons. It wasn’t my favourite box I’ve had, but I only really bought this one for the book so I am super pleased that my predictions were correct 🙂 I love the postcards too, and I just can’t wait to get stuck into Mirage. Thanks again to the FairyLoot team for curating another beautiful box~ ❤
