How are we all doing? 🙂
So Christmas is getting ever closer– are you all done with your present shopping and holiday preparations? December is my birthday month as well as Christmas, so I tend to spend the year adding things to a wishlist that I can give to my parents/friends in case they want some inspiration. Disclaimer: I always add more items on my Christmas lists than I ever receive, just because I like the surprise of not knowing exactly what my presents are for birthdays and Christmas.
I used to always get books for my birthday, but as I have had a job and am able to buy my own I have to admit I receive books less often 😛 That doesn’t stop me adding some on my Christmas list though, just in case! I usually add books that I want but do not necessarily want to buy (for various reasons). With less than 2 weeks left until Christmas is upon us, I wanted to share the books I put on my Christmas wishlist!
Knight’s Shadow by Sebastien de Castell
This is the second book in the Greatcoats series, coming after Traitor’s Blade. I have had this on my Christmas list for YEARS! I really enjoyed the first book, and have been wanting to continue on with the series, but I actually found it really hard to find this sequel in the bookstores near me. Plus the paperback is £10.99, and I am a bit of a Scrooge when it comes to book-buying. At that price I would prefer the book as a present or something I buy with gift vouchers… is that strange? I would like to read this book at some point though, so it is on the list for another year~
The Hobbit & LOTR Deluxe Pocket Book Set – series by J. R. R. Tolkien
Another item that I have had on my Christmas list for the last few years, and I still don’t own. This is a gorgeous little pocket book box set of the Lord of the Rings series, plus The Hobbit. Each book is leatherette-bound, and the main reason I have been wanting this set is due to the colours of each book. They are so autumnal-looking and very aesthetically pleasing. I haven’t bought it myself as I don’t necessarily want to read this series right away, but in terms of a potential gift I think it will always be on my Christmas list just a friendly reminder to myself that I need this box set on my bookshelves. It is just so pretty! ❤
Emergency Contact by Mary H. K. Choi
I have had my eye on this book for a while, but I have just never got round to buying it? I think the cover is gorgeous ❤ I’m always a bit more hesitant when buying contemporaries in case I don’t like it as much as I think I do, whereas there is less risk with fantasy books as I know the genre much better. But I am still intrigued by it, which is why is it on my Christmas list this year.
Crier’s War by Nina Varela
This is a fairly new book, and I actually featured it in my October’s Anticipated Releases post a couple of months ago. It sounds like a super cool book, but I dont think it is officially publishing in the UK. I’m sure you can get it on Amazon as it is a US company, but I think the only format available right now is a hardback, and I grudge buying hardbacks for myself as they are so expensive. So I decide to include it on a Christmas wishlist just in case.
The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern
Another new title on my Christmas list, and again another hardback haha! This book seems really interesting, and I love the exclusive Waterstones cover (see above). Sadly this edition is out of stock, but the story still sounds cool so it deserves a mention on my wishlist 🙂
The Tea Dragon Society by Katie O’Neill
Eep, okay I’ve been wanting this book since it was published, I’m not going to lie. I think the artwork looks gorgeous, and it is such a great concept. Can you guess why I haven’t bought my own copy yet? Yup, it’s due to the price again. It was selling for £13-16 for a 72 page book. As an art lover I completely appreciate that a graphic novel would be more expensive than a standard book, but the tight-fisted part of my brain just couldn’t make me pay that much @_@. But I have asked for it for Christmas this year, so hopefully I can finally get my hands on a copy!
City of Lies by Sam Hawke
Another one of my anticipated books that I have been meaning to buy for ages. I was actually waiting for the paperback to come out, but this published in June 2019 and it seemed to pass me by? This book contains so many of my favroutie things in a fantasy- poison, secrets and court intrigue- so I defintiely want to get my hands on a copy soon. It is on my Christmas list, but if Santa does not get it for me I may have to pop to the book store in January~
10 Blind Dates by Ashley Elston
Okay, this is actually a bonus entry on this post- 10 Blind Dates was on my Christmas wishlist, but I decided to treat myself by buying an early present as this is a cute little festive read, which I would love to start before Christmas itself! 🙂
And there we go, here are the books on my wishlist for this festive season. A note here that I have only included fiction books on this list, and I have not included any books from other genres or interests, like cookbooks or art books. Given my family’s habits it is unlikely that I will get books for birthday/Christmas present, but it is nice to construct a little wishlist, if only so I know what to look out for in the new year!! 😀
Do you have any books on your wishlist this year? Let me know in the comments~
